Calculated using California daily overtime rules (>8 hrs/day = 1.5×, >12 hrs/day = 2×, 7th consecutive workday premium). Source: CA DIR overtime FAQ. See Sources & methodology.

How this is calculated

Under the federal FLSA rule, overtime usually starts after 40 hours in a workweek and pays at least 1.5× the regular rate. California can trigger overtime after 8 hours in a day and double time after 12 hours in a day, which is why the same week can pay differently there.

This tool totals the hours you enter, applies the selected rule set, and shows how much of the week lands in each pay bucket. It does not model every exemption, union contract, meal-period premium, or shift differential.

Formula

Gross pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × 1.5 + double-time hours × rate × 2

Numbers and assumptions are documented on our Sources & methodology page.
